The Down East Rural Transportation Planning Organization serves Carteret, Craven, Jones, Onslow, and Pamlico Counties. The RPO was formed in order to more effectively funnel transportation dollars to rural areas and engage the public in the transportation planning process. The Down East RPO is one of twenty such organizations in the state.

The Down East Rural Planning Organization exists to serve as an intergovernmental organization for local elected officials, the NC Department of Transportation, and residents of its five-county region to work cooperatively to address transportation issues and to develop long-range local and regional multi-modal transportation plans to sustain and improve the quality of life for residents of the region and throughout the State of North Carolina.

The Transportation Planning Division of the North Carolina Department of Transportation, in cooperation with Craven County, the New Bern Area MPO and the Down East Rural Transportation Planning Organization, is developing a Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) that identifies the long-range transportation needs for Craven County over the next thirty years. The CTP is a plan that includes roadways, rail, public transportation, bicycle, and pedestrian improvements, and the public’s input is vital in developing a plan that meets the future needs of the citizens of Craven County.

To create an effective plan, we need your help! Your experience and opinion about transportation in Craven County will help shape what we do in the future. Please take a few minutes to fill out the following survey so we can consider your vision for transportation in Craven County. Click on the following link to take the survey: Craven County CTP Survey. Please complete your survey by May 17, 2019.
